Life Is so Large!

 Life is...

 ...so large!

Hi Kids,
We arrived home in time for the  weekend.  Some technical issues (.heic file transfer!) delayed this, our final Appalachian Trail, post. We wanted to show you the adventure, from start to finish, in a video.
We hope that you are staying well and happy and thoroughly occupied by your own adventures.
All our love,
Andi and Darrell

Appalachian Trail Adventure Completion

We were gone for about a week.  We book ended three days on the Appalachian Trail--during which we hiked the Berkshires in Massachusetts--with some fun first in Albany, New York, and then, to close the trip, in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

We were joined by our (Andi's) sister Meridyth and her family:  Spouse Matt and kids Eva and Nolan.

Here's the nearly nine-minute video version of our AT Adventure.  Looong? Yes!  We didn't want it to end!

Our trip surpassed our startlingly high expectations.  Travel reminded us just how large life is.  And how sweet "home" is.  Here's what we mean:

  • Home is New York.  Home is Massachusetts.  Home is green and wet.  Home is brown and dry.
  • Home is culture and history and the beautiful outdoors. Home is Planet Earth.
  • Home is family.  The people who know you and love you anyway.  The people who amaze you because they've grown into such full sized, loving, funny adults.
  • Home fills our hearts.

Life is so small, like frogs and fungi.  Life is so large, like a trail that is 2,100 miles long.

Life is amazed to...

  • ...get on an airplane and cross the country.
  • ...hike more than ten miles together each day.
  • ...see frogs and fungi and flowers and to float on rivers that stretch for miles and miles.
  • ...share meals with strangers in wonderful restaurants, and to appreciate the same works of art together. To share our common and separate histories.
  • ...celebrate another birthday.  Together. After all that has happened.

We really are very moved by our trip.  Now we remember why we formerly loved to travel so much.  There is no greater reminder of how fortunate we are to see another day here at home, on Earth.

In case that's all too serious, take a look at our outtake reel:

Fun with a Selfie Stick Video

Darrell's MRI is tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.  That's the next adventure.

Thanks for reading today, and always.  You, Team D, are a reason we are home.  And that life is so large.
